Single Photon Counting Modules

LASER COMPONENTS Germany GmbH

In 2010 Laser Components introduced yet another innovative product into the market: complete single photon counting modules. Laser Components successfully met the demands of its customers for a high quantum efficiency and very low dark count rates with these modules.

At the heart of the COUNT® modules is a Geiger-mode silicon avalanche photodiode, which was specifically developed by our sister company Laser Components Detector Group, Inc. This APD is one of the lowest-noise photodiodes on the market and features an excellent quantum efficiency in the blue and red spectral regions.

Manufacturing Options
At the semi-automatic measuring station, quantum efficiency, dark count rates, and after-pulsing can be measured - with or without fiber coupling. We simulate different scenarios, testing efficiency in your application field.

Both the production facility and testing laboratories for inspection, measurement, and qualification of the COUNT® modules are located at our headquarters in Olching.

Fully automated measuring station for COUNT® modules

For quality control purposes, LASER COMPONENTS and a SPAD manufacturer Swabian Instruments set up a state-of-the-art measuring station in 2021.

At its heart is the Time Tagger Ultra, a highly sensitive TCSPC system (Time-Correlated Single-Photon Counting), which is supplemented by ultra-short pulsed diode lasers, high-precision reference power meters and computer-controlled motion tables. All important values can be determined in the system, such as jitter, dark count rate, afterpulsing, dead time and detection efficiency.

Standard measurements are performed for the wavelengths 405 nm, 505 nm, 670 nm and 804 nm. Up to twelve COUNT® modules can be tested simultaneously.
