Optical attenuators are used to quickly and easily compensate power fluctuations in optical fibers. The most important application fields include DWDM, CATV, and telecommunication systems. In addition, they are used to measure components and to determine the parameters in manufacturing processes.

Typically, an adjustment of the path attenuation to match the system dynamics is required. This occurs, for example, when the receiver exhibits only a limited dynamic range, that is when it can only function within a certain power range.
If the power is too high, the receiver will overload. Inexpensive attenuators offer the perfect solution for such problems.

Mechanical attenuators are available as female/female connectors. With the help of a counter nut the attenuation can be quickly and easily adjusted. Standard designs currently include ST and SMA connectors. Other designs are available upon request!
