Pyroelectric Sensors

Pyrodetectors are a part of the group of thermal detectors; they detect signal changes. They are primarily used in the mid-infrared range, but they also function in the NIR, Vis, UV, and far infrared ranges. The latter is also referred to as the terahertz range.

One Channel Detectors – Standard Products

The product line comprises single channel detectors in four chip sizes: 1.4x1.0 mm², 1.3x1.3 mm², 2.0x2.0 mm² and 3.0 x 3.0 mm²

Pyroelectric Sensors

Our standard product range consists of pyroelectric detectors based on four chip sizes: 1.4 x 1.0 mm², 1.3 x 1.3 mm², 2.0 x 2.0 mm², and 3.0 x 3.0 mm².

Versions
The most common and traditional models for current and voltage operation are available for all chip sizes (except 1.3 x 1.3 mm²). The small chip is used when there is a shortage of space because the housing is only 4.7 mm in diameter. The medium chip is the standard chip; its housing is 8.2 mm in diameter. The large chip is used most notably in safety technology.

Within the scope of product care fundamentally new detector series were designed between 2003 and 2005 piece by piece for 2.0 x 2.0 mm² and 3.0 x 3.0 mm² chips. By integrating the OPV into the housing otherwise seldom used current operation can be used on a standard basis, which means a quantum leap in signal level and thermal stability. A "low micro” option was also integrated into these design series on a standard basis, which means that nothing can stand in the way of mounting these products onto vibrating machines, for example.

A trimmed-down version of the series based on the small 1.3 x 1.3 mm² chip was designed simultaneously that has an integrated OPV but not the "low micro” option.

OPV#3
In 2009 the OpAmp family was extended to include a new member: The so-called OpAmp #3 consumes less power for one and operates at +2.7 volts for another, which means that it does not require balanced operating voltage.

The advantages of OPV integration and the basic theoretical principles of microphony can be found in the section "Advanced Features of InfraTec Pyroelectric Detectors” in a separate part of the catalog "Pyroelectric Library.”
