Fiber Optic Field Equipment

In optical measurement technology, different measurement devices are used to test optical fibers. In addition to analyzers and power measurement devices, optical sources that can be readout with the help of monitors are also used.

Optical Loss Tester for Single-Mode Fibers

OMK-3x kit with light source, power meter, power supply, and USB cable

For Single-mode Fibers: Optical Loss Testers Used in Installation, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting.

We have different optical loss testers available for all applications and for any budget. They are used to test optical signals and systems (i.e., the loss between the input signal and the output signal is tested).
You may choose from a wide selection of tester series:

  • OMK-34, OMK-35, OMK-36, OMK-38, and OMK-55 from VIAVI
  • SLP4, SLP5, SLP6, and SMLP5 from AFL Noyes

Complete SmartPocketTM measurement kits consist of an optical light source (OLS-3x), an optical power meter (OLP-3x), and extra accessories. They are compact, easy to operate, and have an abrasion-proof surface for application in the field.

The OMK-34, OMK-35, OMK-36, and OMK-38 test kits are used in the measurement of optical loss in single-mode fibers. To easily analyze the test results, OFS-355 software is included for use. To quickly download the test results, the units can also be equipped with a USB port on an optional basis (P version).

  • OMK-34 – Power Meter and Optical Loss Tester for MM Fibers
Measurements Possible in LAN/WAN and Enterprise Networks

The OMK-34 is an optical measurement kit with two wavelengths, a single-port LED source (OLS-34) , and a power meter with a universal push/pull (UPP) interface adapter (OLP-34). With this measurement kit, power measurements and loss measurements can be carried out in multi-mode LAN/WAN and enterprise networks.
  • OMK-35 – Power Meter and Optical Loss Tester for SM Fibers
    For Access and Metro Networks

Optical dual-wavelength test kits consist of a single-port OLS-35 laser source and an OLP-35 optical power meter with a UPP interface. This combination allows the power measurement and loss measurement of single-mode fibers to be carried out in access and metro networks.
  • OMK-36 – Power Meter and Optical Loss Tester for SM/MM
Four wavelengths are available in the OMK-36 measurement kit, which consists of the OLS-36 dual light source and the OLP-35 power meter with a UPP interface. Thus, it is well suited for the power measurement and loss measurement of SM and MM fibers.
  • OMK-38 – Power Meter and Optical Loss Tester for SM Fibers
    For High-Power CATV

The OMK-38 dual-wavelength measurement kit consists of the combination of a single-port OLS-35 laser source and an OLP-38 power meter with a UPP interface. It is used in particular for the power measurement and loss measurement of single-mode fibers in high-power CATV networks.

SLP4 Test Kit with Dual or Triple Wavelengths

The SLP4 test kit is used for different applications:

  • Measurement of passive optical networks (PONs)
  • Certification of single-mode links using TIA/EIA standards
  • Fiber identification prior to splicing

This set consists of an OLS2 or OLS7 laser source and an OPM4 series power meter.

You may choose from different laser sources that only differ in wavelength and thus in their field of application. The OLS2 laser source has two wavelengths, and the OLS7 has three wavelengths:

  • For LAN Networks
    1310 and 1550 nm
  • For FTTH Networks
    1310, 1490, and 1550 nm
  • For FTTx Networks
    1310, 1490, and 1625 nm
  • For Telecom and CATV Applications
    1310, 1550, and 1625 nm

SLP5 Test Kit for Dual and Triple Wavelengths with Data Storage

The SLP5 test kit is designed for use in the same application; in addition, it features internal storage capacity for testing data that can be readout via a USB port. Thus, the same OLS2 and OLS7 laser sources are used in the SLP5; however, the OPM5 series is the power meter used here.
