Polarizing Prisms
With the help of optically one-axis crystals, linearly polarized light can be created from unpolarized light. Polarization separation is achieved through birefringent materials.
High Power Polarizers
For polarization separation, LASER COMPONENTS offers polarizers made from different birefringent materials. With the help of optically one-axis crystals, linearly polarized light can be created from unpolarized light.
Birefringence
By means of birefringence, unpolarized light is divided into two rays, the ordinary (o) and extraordinary (eo) beam. Polarization of the ordinary beam runs perpendicular to the optical axis of the crystal so that its direction of propagation is not affected by the crystal. The extraordinary beam, however, oscillates parallel to the optical axis and is diffracted on account of the different refraction indices.
