The company was formed in 2002 and introduced it’s first products in 2004. Michael Schneider is the founder of the company and prior to ODM Inc. He was the VP Marketing and Sales and co-founder of Noyes Fiber Systems.

The engineering and operations employees also have many years of experience in fiber optic test equipment design and manufacture.
The product strategy is to concentrate on small inexpensive test tools for all aspects of fiber optic markets. The optical power meters and light sources provide only those features that the contractor or technician needs to install or maintain the network. Not only they provide the least expensive power meters and light sources in the market.

They also will introduce video connector inspection products in the first quarter of 2008. Another innovative approach they have is the LFI 110 Live Fiber Identifier that "snaps" on to the RP 460 power meter providing additional functionality to the meter. Many companies offer a stand alone fiber identifier. Their approach uses many of the features of both products and allows the technician to upgrade to this additional function by purchasing only the accessory.
