Life Sciences/Medicine

Modern imaging systems help scientists unveil the last secrets of the human body. Their understanding of cellular and molecular processes provides doctors and medical engineers with valuable insights for the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures – many of them using the advantages of laser technology.

Fluorescence Microscopy

Fluorescence microscopy is used to make selected cell parts visible, ensuring a high contrast. The samples are usually stained with fluorescence markers.

In this process, the cells are excited with a specific wavelength and the fluorochrome responds with a fluorescence that has shifted into the red spectral range. The use of special filter combinations ensures that only the fluorescence signal is monitored. In general, this combination consists of three filters arranged in a cube.
