PbS 1 - 3,3 µm
Polycrystalline PbS is a traditional IR detector of high quality. PbS acts as a photoresistor.
PbS and PbSe Detectors
PbS detectors are the original IR semiconductor detectors. They were developed around 1940 and act as photoresistors. Until almost 1950, they were unrivaled in the NIR; however, due to the availability of extended InGaAs this has changed, in particular in the range <= 2.5 µm. PbS detectors still have their place in the world (also for new developments). They offer a good cost / performance ratio and are particularly advantageous when large sensitive areas are required.
Room temperature detectors in TO cans as well as thermoelectrically cooled assemblies are available here.
