UV filters are mainly used in various analytical processes. Growing areas of application are also disinfection and sterilisation.
UV radiation is harmful to human skin. Therefore, emissions from UV LEDs, mercury and xenon lamps must be blocked in practice. Filter designs are available for all three UV ranges (UVA, UVB and UVC).
All UV filters block wavelengths between approx. 300 nm and 1150 nm with an optical density above OD 4. Below this, special coating processes allow a transmission above 20%. Our Ultra series even offers transmissions of more than 50% (typically 70%) in the UV up to approx. 250 nm. But in this case only the visible spectrum is blocked.
Special reflectors have been designed for UV sterilisation. They suppress the wavelength range above 230 nm and provide UV radiation of smaller wavelengths for destroying bacteria and viruses.
