COUNT® Q: Counting Photons up to 1650 nm

Photonics News No 65

License Agreements Signed

Individual photons play an important role in many quantum research experiments. In order to detect these photons, counting modules that possess a high sensitivity in the near IR are required. In 2011 the prototype of an InGaAs APD-based single photon counter was developed at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) in cooperation with the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. In July 2012, Patrick Paul, general manager at LASER COMPONENTS, and Dr. Martin Stierle, head of business unit optical quantum technology, signed a license agreement to advance the project. Thanks to this cooperation the experts at AIT were able to get the product ready for the market. It will be available in the spring of 2013 under the name COUNT® Q. The existing product portfolio will be optimally expanded by the COUNT® Q.

The new photon counter can be used in the spectral region between 900 nm and 1650 nm. You will receive further technical data as soon as the modules are available.
