Günther Paul Celebrates “Round” Birthday

Photonics News No 75

Prominent Political Guest at LC

“70 years of Paul, Günther – that’s 70 years of Günther Paul,” began Dr. Edmund Stoiber (a.k.a. Wolfgang Krebs) – with his unmistakable character – making this very astute assessment in his laudatory speech in celebration of our company founder’s 70th birthday.

In his festive speech, the “minister president of the “‘former Bavaria’” – as he likes to call himself – again and again successfully linked current political issues with the “jubilant” life of “Laser Paul” and divulged insider party information. He interrupted his speech just once to slip into the role of Horst Seehofer quickly in order to congratulate Laser Components for setting a positive financial example for the federal states and change his mind several times within minutes.
The audience – the entire staff and friends of Laser Components’ – had a great time. The entertainer also succeeded in surprising Günther Paul and his wife Monika.

The event began with a lunch buffet and a ping pong tournament, during which Günther Paul competed against several talented colleagues. Because ping pong has been one of his hobbies since he was a young boy, as you can imagine, none of Mr. Paul’s colleagues stood a chance. Thus, the tournament committee came up with a few special rules to make the competition fair; for example: they carved a hole into Günther Paul’s ping pong paddle or made him play with a tiny one. Despite these admittedly unfair tactics, Mr. Paul formidably proved that turning 70 is not at all reason to show signs of fatigue and won (almost) all of the matches.

Günther Paul is in great shape, surely thanks to the increasing amount of free time that he has now that he has passed the torch to his son Patrick Paul. He ushered in the new generation with the same amount of meticulousness and vision he exhibited when he founded the company: the LC Group now comprises 10 companies with a total of 200 employees and an annual turnover of approximately 50 million euros.
