Fitel’s Compact, Inexpensive Specialists

Furukawa is launching a new product family with its FITEL S185PM and FITEL S185HS splicers. Further models will follow shortly. With this new concept, the manufacturer offers several inexpensive, compact models for special applications instead of one very expensive multifunctional device.

The S185PM is a core-centering three-axis splicer for polarization-maintaining fibers with a diameter from 80 µm to 150 µm.

Of course, it is also suitable for special fibers and high strength splices. This compact device requires only short fiber lengths and can optionally be equipped with a rechargeable battery. Remote control and data transmission are carried out via a WiFi interface. The FITEL S185PM is easy and intuitive to operate via the integrated touchscreen. Many new functions facilitate splicing. The precision of adjustment and rotation has been further improved.

The S185HS is based on the same platform but does not have rotating sockets for splicing PM fibers. It is designed for applications in which high-precision splices with high strength are required.
