Optical Fiber Processing

We offer tools for a large variety of different types of fiber processing:

This includes the stripping of fiber claddings, the cleaning and cleaving of fibers, and splicing or polishing, depending on the application. Microscopes and/or interferometers are used in the analysis of fiber end surfaces.

We have tools available for all stages of processing, both for field applications and applications in the laboratory. We cover the entire range of fiber diameters to 1.2 mm.

Cleave Tools for 200 - 1500 µm Fibers

Fiber Cleaver

High quality fiber breaks are the yardstick for fiber optical cleave tools. Further criteria include easy handling, speed, and flexibility. Our standard devices are made for perpendicular and slant (4°-12°) breaks. For the so-called large core fibers we offer a cleave tool that can process fibers with a core diameter of 200 µm to 1500 µm.

The I-Cleave is used to cleave large-core fibers that have a core diameter from 200 µm to 1500 µm, resulting in cleaves that are perfectly perpendicular to the optical axis.

A diamond tip is used to make a small cut on the outer diameter of the fiber, and the fiber is then broken by applying longitudinal force along the optical axis.

The I-Cleave was developed to avoid putting any undue strain on the fiber. With the help of V-groove jigs all fiber core diameters from 200 µm to 1500 µm can be securely mounted in a fixed position.

With the I-Cleave it is possible to cleave polyimide fibers directly through the coating without having to remove the polyimide buffer - which would be costly and time consuming. If the user is cleaving only polyimide fibers a modified clamping kit will be proposed.

The diamond blade inside the fiber "cleaving knife" is at least fifty times sharper than the best razor blade.

The same technology used in stationary cleaving tools now comes in pen size. With this cleaving knife fibers can be cut easily and effectively. The fiber breaks cleanly and reliably at the position scratched by the diamond. All it takes is an axial pull. A subsequent treatment of the clean break is very easily done and can even be omitted.

The diamond blade can be hidden in the tip of the tool to prevent you from cutting apart those important documents you just wanted to sign.
