Optical Fiber Processing

We offer tools for a large variety of different types of fiber processing:

This includes the stripping of fiber claddings, the cleaning and cleaving of fibers, and splicing or polishing, depending on the application. Microscopes and/or interferometers are used in the analysis of fiber end surfaces.

We have tools available for all stages of processing, both for field applications and applications in the laboratory. We cover the entire range of fiber diameters to 1.2 mm.

Coupler Manufacturing Workstations

Coupler drawing machines are suited for the development and production of fiber optic passive components.

Coupler drawing machines are used in the production of fused couplers. In addition to standard fibers with a diameter of 125 µm, these units, which are manufactured by Lightel, are also used to process thicker fibers and polarization-maintaining fibers.

Lightel’s coupler drawing machines work with hydrogen gas and/or oxygen. High temperatures can be achieved that make it possible to manufacture different products, for example

  • Fused couplers consist of optical fibers that are parallel to each other and that are twisted and thermally connected to one another. After heating, the fibers are drawn in the heated area to form a 1:N coupler.
  • WDMs are used to transmit several parallel signals by guiding light of different wavelengths in an optical fiber at the same time.
  • Power combiners – Power splitters
  • Thermal core expansion devices – Components with thermal core expansion
  • Mode field adapters

The CW-200B coupler drawing machine is used in the production of couplers via the fused biconic taper (FBT) process.

Also available:

  • Various platforms
  • Varying torch diameters
  • Variable detector and source selection
  • Clamps for diverse fiber diameters

A wide range of fused fiber optic products can be prepared at the CW-5000 coupler work station, including

  • FTF fused couplers
  • Tapered single fibers and tapers
  • Fiber enhancements

Due to its flexible design (for which various different platforms can be used) and intelligent, automated control, the CW-5000 is suited for use in production facilities and research centers.

 

 

The FiberForge™ is a unit with the smallest dimensions and is specifically designed for product development. The integrated PC facilitates transportation between the workbench and the laboratory. If desired, a hydrogen generator can also be integrated on an optional basis.
