Special challenges exist with optical fibers in OTDR measurements in the aerospace and submarine industry: short lengths, short distances between events, and high back reflections in connectors: The MTS6000 was specifically designed with an 8123AV module to meet these challenges.
The OTDR has extremely short dead zones (20 cm or 40 cm) and, at a pulse width of just 1 ns, still has a dynamic range of 16 dB. This combination makes this OTDR immune to high reflections in the system. It also allows short lengths and distances to be determined exactly between events.
The measurement is performed in an AUTO mode. To simplify operation, the measurement result can either be displayed in a graphic representation or in the form of symbols. This makes it easier for non-specialists to analyze measurements. Predefined measurement configurations can be stored in the unit and are available at any time for special measurement tasks.
The connection of the connector microscope P5000i completes this device. Connector end faces can be checked for dirt or damage and objectively analyzed according to the valid 61300-3-35 (PASS/FAIL) standard.
