Fiber Optic Lab Equipment

Different measurement devices are used to test optical fibers. In addition to analyzers and power measurement devices, optical sources that can be readout with the help of monitors are also used.

Launch Condition Analyzer

OP1021

To characterize fibers, fiber connectors, and components, it is important to determine the near field and far field based on the launch conditions.

Using the near-field and far-field measuring station (launch condition analyzer), it is possible to determine the development of the fiber-optic near field to far field. The emitted field of the optical fiber develops from the near field in the cross-sectional plane of the optical fiber to the far field, the center of which is in the center of the emitting area. The far field is determined by the angle of distribution of the radiated intensity. In highly-specified applications, but also in the development and characterization of connectors, it is important to know the correct input and output coupling conditions that follow the connector or the fiber. Commercial systems were developed that generate measurement results for the near field that are IEC 61280-1-4 compatible and traceable. The far field is calculated according to standards such as TIA-455-177-B. This device can also be used to test the encircled flux conditions of 50 µm or 62.5 µm fibers.
