Viavi Presents Its First Automated Attenuation Measuring Station for MPO/MTP

In our network age, data volume is getting larger and larger. Many companies and data centers are thus forced to increase their bandwidth to 40 GBit/s or 100 GBit/s. For this purpose, they also increasingly rely on MPO and MTP multiple fiber connectors, which have previously only been used in transmission bundling in data centers, for use in end devices.
Of course, in these cases it is imperative that the attenuation losses of fiber optic connectors fulfill legal and custom requirements. Our partner VIAVI has set a new benchmark with its MPOLx, the first automated attenuation measuring station for the basic certification of MPO/MTP cables.
In less than six seconds, the MPOLx determines the fiber length, attenuation, and polarity of all twelve fibers of the MPO connector. At the same time, it makes visual inspection of the fiber end faces possible. All results are clearly displayed on a 3.5” large color touchscreen together with the threshold values, test wavelength, and reserve. The tester can immediately recognize whether or not the values are within the allowed limits via the color-coded pass/fail depiction. Upon request, the device creates a complete certification report.
The MPOLx measurement set consists of two devices, both of which have a light source, a power meter, and an integrated connector microscope. The measuring station can be operated from both devices and the test results are displayed on both fiber ends. Thus, the technician does not unnecessarily have to switch between the measuring points and can quickly and efficiently complete his task.
