mHROSA-a Spectrum Analyzer and Wavelength Measurement with the mWAVE-A1

Photonics News No 72

For the MAP Platform

D72-JDSU

Introducing the mWAVE-A1 wavelength measurement module and the mHROSA-A1 high-resolution optical spectrum analyzer module as new products for spectral measurements.

The mWAVE-A1 is a multi-wavelength wave meter that is used to detect the optical power levels and center wavelengths of densely-packed optical signals at up to 2 GHz spacing with the help of coherent detection technology. This technology is also used in the detection of the DWDM wavelengths and their power levels present in DWDM transmission systems.

The mHROSA-A1 high-resolution optical spectrum analyzer module combines the multi-wavelength wave meter with a high-resolution optical spectrum analyzer. In addition to detection and measurement of the power levels, the OSA module also makes it possible to obtain a graphical representation of the spectrum. Typical applications include the characterization of DWDM transmission systems, optical sources, transponders, and line cards.

Good to Know!
MAP – Modular Optical Fiber Measurement Platform for R&D and Production
The MAP-200 modular measurement platform from JDSU is a measuring station with a modular design for the characterization of fiber-optical components and systems in research, development, and production. The MAP-200 has a wide range of optical modules and mainframes, including

  • Different optical light sources
  • Detectors
  • Variable attenuators
  • Optical switches
  • Erbium-doped fiber-optical amplifiers (EDFAs)
  • Tunable filters
  • NEW: mWAVEA1 and mHROSAA1 spectral measurement modules

Why MAP? High packing density and configurability are two of the advantages of the MAP solution. The detector modules are available, for example, with up to four inputs per single slot module. Due to this modular assembly, the optical measuring stations can be very flexibly designed and adjusted to meet changing requirements.

Fields of application. Typical applications include insertion loss measurements, testing of optical transceivers and transponders, characterization of the optical properties and efficiency of passive and active fiber-optic components and systems.

Modularity. GPIB, Ethernet, and USB interfaces, as well as interchangeable virtual instrument (IVI) drivers, are available to help integrate the MAP platform in automated test sequences.
