Modules as Small as a Diode

Photonics News Numéro 75

We will make a smile magically appear on your face – with our new low-cost laser modules.

D75-174

New laser modules are available: They are smaller than a pin, illuminate as a red or green dot, as a red line, or as a red cross-hair. Some of them can be used at temperatures of up to 60°C, and others can be focused.
They are referred to as low-cost modules because they really are inexpensive. In our experience, for this reason they are commonly used in systems that require a low price.

There are three series available that differ according to their wavelength:

Bright green light is particularly visible: LC-LMD-525-120-01-A. With these dot lasers, a highly visible, bright green dot at a wavelength of 520 nm is projected. Despite the perceived brightness, this module is assigned to laser class 2. Thus, it has an output power of <1 mW and can be operated comfortably with a voltage between three and six volts.

Focusable and bright red light: LC-LMP-635. These laser modules can be focused: This allows the dots, lines, and cross-hairs to be narrowly adjusted – completely independent of the working distance. The modules have an output power of 3 mW; the wavelength is 635 nm.

Up to 60°C and red light: LC-LMD-650-02-T60:
The striking feature of these laser modules is the operating temperature range: the surrounding temperature may be as hot as up to 60°C without affecting the properties of the laser module. Others begin to sweat at 20°C. The module is a dot laser and falls under laser class 1 with <1 mW. This module is so small that it can be integrated into small systems as well: With a length of 11.5 mm and a diameter of 6.2 mm, it is comparable to the cap of a retractable pencil.
