While winemakers in the palatinate region are looking forward to the harvest from 2017, at LASER COMPONENTS we are still enjoying our own brand of “LC beer from 2016”. This unique aficionado’s dream was self-brewed by enthusiastic colleagues.

Every year employees at LASER COMPONENTS are rewarded for their hard work and dedication with a company outing. In october of 2016, we traveled together from olching to regensburg. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the traditional spital brewery at the foot of the old stone bridge where a palatable beer has been brewed since the middle ages.

First, the approximately 60 participants had the chance to look over the shoulders of the professional brewers in a tour of the brewery. Next, we were introduced to the basic ingredients of hops, malt, and water – the bavarian purity law established in 1516 does not permit any other ingredients.

Then, we were able to brew beer ourselves. Naturally, the brewmaster kept a watchful eye on the engineers, physicists, and office workers who mixed the freshly ground malt and other ingredients.

“Brewing beer involves a lot of stirring,” Peter Roche, who normally procures the materials required for optical coatings, recalls. “First, malt is mixed with water. Then, you have to stir, stir, stir. After all, you don’t want anything to burn.”

The stirring was worth it though. The self-brewed beer was ready just in time for christmas. “I‘m usually a winedrinker. but as an expert in quality management, i can certainly confirm that the 2016 LASER COMPONENTS hops cold brew was a success,” exclaimed Ursula Mader, COO.
