Revised Low-Solarization FDP Fiber
UV Fiber with Excellent Solarization Properties
D67-007
“We are pleased to be able to introduce to our customers a revised FDP fiber. Its introduction will revolutionize UV applications,” said a representative at Polymicro Technologies. The solarization of this new fiber was improved in the deep UV range at 190 nm to 325 nm. This means better light transmission and a longer life expectancy!
Features. The FDP fiber features an extremely high UV transmission and very low UV solarization; thus, it is particularly resistant to UV radiation. After the initial decrease in performance, this FDP fiber exhibits a transmission that is approximately 10% higher than that of its predecessor.
Customer-specific diameters and different buffer materials are also available!
Good to Know!
Solarization in Glass Fibers
Standard glass fibers lose their transmission properties after being radiated with short-wave light: This depends on the power and wavelength, but it can lead to irreversible “blinding” of the fibers, thus rendering them unusable.
Fiber manufacturers are researching materials to counter this effect. The solution is so-called low-solarization fibers. Polymicro Technologies is a specialist in these UV fibers, which are available in two versions: fibers that can be used for a certain period of time and fibers that have a lower – but constant – transmission at UV wavelengths.
