With the mPCS – the polarization controller for the MAP system – it is possible to make adjustments for any polarization state, on the one hand; on the other hand, the mPCS can be used as an analyzer to determine the polarization state in an entire system.

The polarization controller consists of three rotatable elements:

• A polarizer with a high extinction ratio
• A quarter-wave plate
• A half-wave plate

The controllers are available with different fibers at the input: single-mode or polarization-maintaining fibers.

The mPCS modules can be combined with other modules to test fiber amplifiers or passive optical components. The following measurements can then be made:

• Complete control of polarization
• Measurement of PDL according to the four-state Mueller matrix method
• Very high angle accuracy
