Fiber Optic Lab Equipment

Different measurement devices are used to test optical fibers. In addition to analyzers and power measurement devices, optical sources that can be readout with the help of monitors are also used.

Powermeter - Benchtops and Rackmounts

OP735 from Optotest - available with InGaAs, Silicon or high power detectors

Different types of power meters are available as bench-top devices and as rack mounts for use in the laboratory with InGaAs or Si detectors and for high-power applications.

For power or attenuation measurements in the laboratory you have to select from many different devices – each for a distinct field of application. Some, for example, are pure desktop devices, while others are designed for cabinet mounting. You also need to make the right decision when it comes to detector materials: InGaAs detectors can be used between 830 nm and 1700 nm, while silicon devices cover a wavelength range between 580 nm and 1080 nm. There are also dedicated devices for high power measurements.

The OP710 offers an economical approach for optical power measurement applications where multiple channels are needed – for example MTP/MPO-Kabeln mit Fan-out. Each of the up to 24 channels is measured with its individual power meter, allowing for simultaneous data analysis of all channels. Both InGaAs and Silicon detectors are available with this system.

Thanks to its versatility and scalability, the OP710 may be used for all kinds of measuring tasks involving fiber optics – from long-term discontinuity measurement or high variability production testing to stability measurement.

OptoTest’s OP760 is a cost-effective Multichannel Optical Power Meter for manufacturers and all those who have to manage high channel counts. Its up to 24 distinct channels are each equipped with its own individual optical power meter. It also features built-in USB and Ethernet communication interfaces and allows for simultaneous power measurements on all channels.

The USB connection allows channel samples in less than 20 ms, so you can not only capture but also document rapid changes or drop-outs. Thanks to its great speed, you will get the fast feedback you need for active optical alignment of fiber coupling and silicon photonics applications.

The OptoTest OP735 is a single-channel benchtop optical power meter with up to four channels. Each of those may be equipped with an InGaAs, silicon, or high-power detector. You can use it to gain absolute or relative measurements with high resolution and tight linearity specifications.

The OP 735 is designed as a compact stand-alone unit, but you may also use it with a stabilized light source to measure insertion loss. Thanks to its remote head, it also allows you to handle hard to manage components or bulky fiber optic cables. The remote sensor head is one of several detector options which also include Integrating Sphere for measuring bare or ribbon fibers. You may also acquire adapters all common connector types.

The OP850 is a highly efficient solution insertion loss (IL) measurement on multiple fiber cables or ribbon cables with MTP or MXC components. To achieve precision measurement as fast as possible, the system uses both single mode (SM) or multimode (MM) continuous wave (cw) laser sources in combination highly repeatable optical switches. You may test four to 24 separate channels, each with its own customized wavelength. The easy-to-use OPL-MAX Software allows for thorough documentation of all the results.
