LASER COMPONENTS’ InGaAs Photodiodes have a Good Performance at a Reasonable Cost

Photonics News No 45

UK45-0280

LASER COMPONENTS designs and manufactures InGaAs photodiodes in house in Tempe, Arizona. The detectors include InGaAs and extended InGaAs photodiodes with the following spectral ranges:

  • IG17 series (500-1700 nm)
  • IG22 series (500-2200 nm)
  • IG26 series (500-2600 nm)

Active area sizes range from 0.25 mm to 3 mm with standards of 0.25 mm, 1 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm. There is also a special size of 1.3 mm in diametre; this unique size is small enough to be packaged into a TO-46 can, with 5.3 mm base diametre, one could then drop this in-place of a 1 mm InGaAs and achieve approximately 70% more signal, depending on your spot size of course! The detectivity (D*) is considerably better and QE is 15% higher, when compared side-by-side to equivalents to those from other key manufacturers currently on the market. Isn’t it great when you can upgrade a system by simply “dropping in” a superior pin-for-pin replacement; extending the life-span of your system without the need for a costly whole re-design, and to address those customers who demand higher performance levels - performance can often hinge on one component alone!

The prices are competitive and often lower than many currently available InGaAs photodiodes on the market!

Other key features include, lower temperature coefficient, and package options including peltier cooled, ceramic mounted and SMD.

Main applications include: spectroscopy, laser monitoring, non-contact temperature measurement, tunable diode laser spectroscopy (TDLS), spectrophotometry, sorting applications and flame regulation.
