Adjustable Optical Mounts

Adjustable optical mounts are available as mirror mounts or mounts for beam splitters in different sizes.

Optomechanical Mounts

There are two different types of adjustable optical mounts: kinematic mounts and gimbal mounts. Both types are available as mirror mounts or mounts for beam splitters with a diameter from 12.5 mm to 2”. The multi-axial mounts are extremely precise, highly stable, and easy to adjust.

In kinematic mounts, alignment is carried out by tilting the mounts along two to four axes. The pivotal point is located outside of the optical element. The pivotal point of gimbal mounts, however, is in the center of the optic. The mount used along a single axis is similar to that used to hold a model globe. Adjusting along the optical axis avoids a shift in the axis when tilting.

Thanks to a special spring construction these mounts are extremely stable. All mounts may be combined with the accessories available for optical benches.

Kinematic mounts are adjusted by tilting along two to four axes. The pivotal point is located outside of the optical element.

For excellent precision in kinematic mounts, it is recommendable to use multi-axial mounts that have three adjusting screws. For beam paths with a large diameter a C mount is preferable to a closed mount.

All kinematic mounts are available as elements for attachment on the right or left and are adjustable at an angle of up to +/- 4°. The standard versions are made of aluminum. We also offer mounts made of stainless steel upon request.

The pivotal point of gimbal mounts is located in the center of the optic. The mount used along a single axis is similar to that used to hold a model globe. Adjusting along the optical axis avoids a shift in the axis when tilting.

All gimbal mounts can be adjusted at an angle in the range of 3-5°.

In order to use these mounts for elements with an incident angle of 45°, for example, there is a model available for coarse adjustment across the entire 360° range.
