Optical Fibre Processing

We offer tools for a large variety of different types of fibre processing:

This includes the stripping of fibre claddings, the cleaning and cleaving of fibres, and splicing or polishing, depending on the application. Microscopes and/or interferometres are used in the analysis of fibre end surfaces.

We have tools available for all stages of processing, both for field applications and applications in the laboratory. We cover the entire range of fibre diametres to 1.2 mm.

Lens Forming Station

Lens Forming Station from Northlab/3SAE

Fibre tips can be shaped using the Lens Forming Station (LFS): With the help of a defined light arc, spherical lenses with a specified shape can be produced.

The coupling of light into and out of a fibre is crucial for many applications in the field of laser technology, medicine, and sensor technology. Spherical lenses can be used to produce a defined beam shape or emission pattern of light. They also prevent tissue damage during medical applications.

The fibre tips manufactured using the Lens Forming Station are precise and reproducible. Thanks to the patented “ring of fire” technology, the fibre tips are melted and shaped.

With 3SAE’s Lens Forming Station, the fibre tip can be shaped into a spherical lens that has a diametre as desired by the user. The crucial parametres, such as diametre and curvature, are set up in engineering mode using the software available. The fibre is fed and centered using a computer.

If this device is used in production, pass/fail criteria, such as the selected diametre, the centre of the spherical lens, and 3SAE’s effective area radius (EAR) can be specified and automatically tested. Operation then becomes clear and easy, and the set-up menus are hidden.

This device is used to process fibre diametres from 125 µm to 600 µm (Clad O.D.) and coating diametres up to 900 µm.
