Photon Counting in Confocal Microscopy

In confocal microscopy only a diffraction-limited beam spot of the samples is illuminated.

Description

With this beam spot the sample being tested is scanned point by point. The reflected light is detected using a photon counting module for the subsequent reconstruction of the image. Due to the high axial resolution of confocal microscopes, tomographic images can be created that make a 3D reconstruction of the object possible.
