LASER COMPONENTS is proud to introduce our new Multi-Junction1550 nm Pulsed Laser Diode, alias – the “Bright” laser. In fact, we believe this new 1550 PLD to be the “Brightest” laser of its type in the world. Available today with reliable performance, affordable price and second to none in the 1550 nm wavelength regime.

Offered in a variety of hermetic TO packages, the “Bright” laser is produced with an exciting new twist of technology that allows several active emitter layers to be very closely spaced in the horizontal parallel orientation. All emitters can be produced with specified lengths and lase simultaneously having uniform energy distribution. The new 155G1S2J02X, for example, has an emission area of only 50 x 7 microns. The multi-junction laser is highly reliable and is based on a proven InGaAsP structure. Exiting divergent beam angles (typically 12 x 32 degrees) are low compared to typical lasers in this class, yet, the “Bright” laser is in a class of its own due to its extremely high power density output.

The result is an enabling technology for new eye-safe rangefinders that are small, portable, low cost and can range long distances targeting small spot areas. Illumination at the 1550nm wavelength can also be achieved with these lasers. Applications can be found in the defense, medical, industrial and commercial consumer markets.
