Initial Operation of PON Networks

In so-called GPON networks, each subscriber has its own optical fiber to the access point. The passive optical splitter installed there splits the signal from the distribution point between the subscribers.
VIAVI’s new measuring device OLP-88 allows real-time measurements in GPON networks.
This includes:
- Insertion loss <1.5 dB
- Downstream and upstream power level including pass/fail analysis
- Loss measurements in initial operation
- Identification of the optical distribution network (ODN) and readout of the ONU/ONT serial numbers
- Detection of defective network units (ONUs)
- Wavelength-dependent power measurement of 1490/1310 nm and 1550 nm signals
- Automatic pass/fail analysis of the fibers with integrated patchcord microscope or the P5000i
Following measurement, professional certification reports can be generated at the push of a button. Operation of the OLP-88 is child’s play. You will really enjoy holding this device!
