Measurement Devices for Laboratory Applications
Optotest Corp. – New Partner at LASER COMPONENTS
D70-022
Specialized in the field of fiber-optic connector measurement, Optotest Corp. offers assemblers and developers fiber-optic measurement equipment primarily for use in the laboratory.
They have a wide product range that includes the following benchtop units and racks in particular:
- Measurement devices for the measurement of insertion loss and return loss in fiber-optic connectors and components
- Laser and LED sources in the following wavelengths: 630, 650, 850, 980, 1310, 1480, 1550, and 1625 nm
- Power meters with silicon and InGaAs detectors
- Optical switches
- MTP measuring devices
- Software
The appropriate system can be configured for each measurement application: whether fixed detectors or an integrating sphere.
OP940 – The measuring device for IL/RL measurements
Multi-channel systems and MTP measurement solutions with corresponding software for everyday assembly are currently the most sought-after solutions. This includes the new OP940, which is used to measure the insertion loss (IL) and return loss (RL) in connector assemblies.
Measuring devices are also available for special applications, such as “launch condition” analysis and discontinuity (long-term) tests. These units include the OP1021 and the OP1100, respectively. Large testing systems for climate chambers and reliability tests complete this product range.
Optotest Corp.
Optotest Corp. was founded in 2002 by Richard Buerli. Former chief engineer at RIFOCS, he became known primarily for his work in pulsed measurement technology. He developed a technique for the measurement of RL that can be applied without having to wind up the fiber first. This was a major breakthrough in RL measurement considering how unpopular the winding of fibers is.
