Optimized Centricity in Free-Standing Fibers
Developed for Medicine and Industry: SMA or D80 Connectors
D71-018
In laser technology, optical output power often has to be coupled into optical fibers – with as little loss as possible. Fibers that have a diameter of from 200 µm to 1500 µm are used to transmit laser power. We can assemble these fibers with SMA or D80 connectors according to your requirements.
To avoid disturbing effects caused by light that does not travel into the fiber, it is necessary to assemble ferrules with free-standing fibers. This allows misdirected light to be rendered harmless due to multi-reflection.
One quality criterion in such assemblies is the centricity of the fiber core to the ferrule’s outer diameter. This plays a particularly important role in connectors without a positioning nose. In production, we achieve an excellent centricity of <10 µm. This has a major advantage in field applications because assembled cables can be changed without any adjustment.
To reduce the amount of reflections at the air/glass interface, we will also coat the fiber end faces upon request. The transmission of AR-coated fibers is thereby improved by 3.5% to 4% per end face.
