Hollow-core Fibers in a Rugged Metal Jacket and a ZnSe Window
Transmission of CO2 Light Using Optical Fibers
D69-118
CO2 lasers emit light at 10.6 µm, a wavelength that is outside the transmission range of fused silica. The radiation of CO2 lasers, therefore, cannot be transmitted using conventional optical fibers; thus, hollow-core fibers are used.
Hollow-core fiber patchcords were developed for fiber optical couplers to be able to transport laser light to a desired spot simply and with low loss.
Hollow-core fibers with inner-core diameters of 750 µm and 1000 µm are used in the patchcords. They are equipped with special SMA connectors that seal both ends of the hollow-core fibers. On the end faces, these special SMA connectors have a ZnSe window to prevent dirt, dust, and moisture from entering the hollow-core fiber.
The patchcords are delivered in a robust metal hose with a red PVC overcoat. We offer standard lengths of 1 m, 3 m, and 5 m. Other designs or lengths are available upon request. Our R&D department recommends an operating distance of a maximum of 10 mm on the output side of the fiber: additional optical components, such as for example focusing lenses, should only be placed within this range to be able to work with a reasonably good Gaussian beam profile.
Special introductory offer available until April 30, 2014! For your initial tests, get the first patchcord at a special discount price* of €890.00! The fiber from our sale offer has the following properties: 1000 µm core, a length of 1 m, and an SMA connector with a ZnSe window on both ends.
