LASER COMPONENTS Expands its Competency Team

At the start of the new business year, Patrick Paul welcomed the new manager of optical technologies production: “I was pleased to gain such an experienced expert as Uwe Schallenberg for this position.”

Mr. Schallenberg, how did you get involved in optical coatings?
US: Thin-film technology has been my passion for more than 35 years. Just after my graduate physics studies at the University of Jena, I specialized in optical coatings and have remained true to my calling since.

You are a recognized expert in the development of novel products. How did you gain this reputation?
US: Do not adhere to the old, but rather give the new a chance – this is my motto and most likely my recipe for success. Even when science remains almost the same, current technologies make room for new products.

What have you done over the past few years?
US: Previously, I worked as a consultant in my own engineering firm. I was the contact for discussions on the feasibility of implementing new designs; I reviewed the optical and technological requirements necessary for such an undertaking. I researched the best available technology on a daily basis to be able to manufacture products.  

Previously a consultant and now the tasks of a production manager – why the change?
US: The jump from consulting to production management was an easy decision to make. It is not every day that such an opportunity comes along. I wanted to get back to working with people and having a team around me on a daily basis. It is important to me to be able to share my knowledge with others.

Your drive is written on your face.
US: That’s true. I have many ideas in my head that I would like to see made reality. Here I have every option available to me to put my ideas into practice!
