LEDs and VCSELs are used for data transmission in optical fibres. They are less expensive than laser diodes. Equipped with a fibre connection, they can be easily integrated into a system.
Telecommunications emitters are used in optical data transmission and are, therefore, equipped with optical connectors. Customer-specific requirements can be easily integrated.
So-called transceivers combine an optical sender and receiver in a single housing. Low-noise InGaAs PIN photodiodes are integrated as the receiver, whereas LEDs are integrated as the sender.
