Customised Coatings and Buffers
Protective Coatings for Optical Fibres Extend Lifetime
UK33-1110
Optical fibres are supplied with different coatings and buffers for different applications. The coating is the first protective layer of the fibre. Depending on the temperature range in which the fibre is intended to be used, the coating is made of different materials:
- up to 175°C: High temperature acrylate
- 65°C to +125°C: fluorine acrylate
- 60°C to +200°C: silicone
- 196°C to +400°C: polyimide
The second protective layer for the optical fibre is the buffer, which provides the fibre with additional mechanical stability and offers protection against environmental influences. Fluorine polymers such as PFA, FEP, ETFE, and PVDF are used as the buffer. PEEK can also be used as the buffer material, which has a high resistance to chemical agents, steam, moisture, and radioactive radiation.
A complete range of standard or custom fibre cables are available. Just ask us about fibre customisation!
