IR Fibre Optic Cables

Infrared wavelengths cannot be transmitted via conventional fibres with a quartz glass core because the coupled light is absorbed by the material. In industry and medicine, CO2 and Er:YAG (10.6 µm and 2.94 µm, respectively) lasers, therefore, use special fibres for power transmission.

Patchcords for CO2 Lasers

HSW

CO2 lasers are used in laser material processing and medical applications for the cutting and ablation of tissue because they do not cause bleeding.

The heart of the patchcords is a hollow-core fibre with a core diametre of 500 μm, 750 μm, or 1000 μm. The fibre is generally protected by a metal jacket. The fibre itself is biocompatible and may be sterilized.

So-called SMA905 connectors are used as the main connectors. They are very widely used in laser applications. We also offer options with FC or ST connectors.

Our CO2 fibres are able to transmit pilot beams and visualize the point of incidence for invisible IR radiation.
