Fast and secure mounting of positioning laser modules
Handling instruction for ILM12F laser modules
Dot, line, and cross-hair lasers indicate where to position a workpiece, set a welding seam, or drill a hole. At LASER COMPONENTS, we have been successfully manufacturing easy-to-mount positioning lasers for industrial applications for many years.
Watch the videos with our expert Stephan Krauß how to mount our ILM12F laser modules:
- Part 1: Use a cross-hair laser to place a label on a package
- Part 2: Secure the ILM12F laser module using an M12 thread
- Part 3: Power supply, positioning, and focusing of the ILM12F laser module for industrial applications
- Part 4: How to protect the ILM12F laser module against environmental influences
What does a positioning laser do?
Watch Part 1
When you point a laser beam at a workpiece from above, you can see at first glance where the machine will start to cut, weld, drill, or saw. Depending on the application, this marking can be a dot, a line, or a cross hair. Positioning lasers are also helpful in larger dimensions, for example, when it comes to marking a specific area in a large hall. On the fork of a forklift, the laser facilitates alignment with the pallet at greater heights. In this video, we will use a cross-hair laser to place a label on a package.

Securing with an M12 thread
Watch Part 2
M12 threads are largely used in mechanical engineering. With its characteristic external thread, the ILM12F can be mounted quickly and easily in machines and other structures. In this video, our expert Stephan Krauß will show you how easy this thread makes mounting your ILM12F module.
Even if basic installation is simple, you should pay attention to a few little things so that you can benefit from your positioning device for as long as possible. Stephan Krauß knows how to ensure optimum heat dissipation and thus extend the lifespan of your laser.

Power supply, positioning, and focusing
Watch Part 3
Once you have mounted your ILM12F laser module, it is time for fine tuning. To do this, Stefan Krauß from LASER COMPONENTS will first introduce you to the four options for power supply. Then he will explain how to align and focus your positioning laser in just a few steps.
The M12 connector of the ILM12F not only complies with a common industry standard but, since the cable is firmly screwed to the laser module, it also ensures a permanent power supply. In this video, Stefan Krauß will show you various options – from the classic 220 V socket to the connecting cable for easy installation in machines to mobile solutions with a rechargeable battery or USB connection.
To align your positioning laser correctly, only a few steps are necessary. In this video you will learn what you need to pay attention to and how to get a sharp, clear laser line.

Protection against external influences
Watch Part 4
This way you can protect the sensitive optics of your ILM12F positioning laser from scratches and dirt. In the last part of our video series, laser module expert Stephan Krauß will also tell you how to make your laser module “submersible” (protection class IP67).
The ILM12F positioning laser always corresponds to protection class IP54. This means it is protected against dust and water splashes. In cross-hair lasers, the cross-hair shape is created using a thin plastic plate, which is very susceptible to dust and scratches. Stephan Krauß, therefore, also recommends using a protective cap. This makes it possible to achieve protection class IP67, where the module can be immersed in water for a short time. However, a few small things have to be taken into account. Stephan Krauß will explain which ones in this final video in our series on the ILM12F positioning laser.
