Spatial Light Modulators (SLM) will shape the future of virtual and augmented reality, training, education, and human computer interaction. They use liquid crystal technology to generate 3D images in real time and create the impression of moving objects. Holoeye’s LUNA is the smallest SLM available at LASER COMPONENTS USA. It consists of a full HD (1920 x 1080 pixel) LCOS display (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) and a driver unit with an RGB light source sync connector on the driver board for use with RGB color-switchable laser sources. It supports a field rate of 180/360 Hz and RGB phase modulation.
A 4-lane Display Serial Interface (DSI) provides an alternative access for digital video data input so that LUNA can be used as an extended monitor device. Its driver unit features a USB interface which allows calibration for different wavelengths by adapting voltage vs. phase level distribution (gamma control) and dynamic range (voltage across the LC cell).
At a total size of 84.4 × 47 × 28.8 mm, the plug-and-play SLM can be integrated into small optical setups and portable devices.
