By further developing its proven multi-junction technology, LASER COMPONENTS Canada has succeeded in significantly increasing the performance of its 905 nm pulsed laser diodes. Higher performance means, for example, a longer range in LiDAR systems. With arrays, system designers also gain more flexibility because the individual elements can be controlled separately.
We achieve these advantages through a process change in the microfabrication of the laser chips: Two V-grooves (“trenches”) are embedded in the chip’s surface parallel to the resonator. This enables the manufacturer to prevent disturbing lateral modes and to ensure that more electrical energy is converted into laser light. The efficiency of the PLDs could thus be increased from 2.6 W/A to 3.2 W/A.
