Optical Fibres and Cables

Laser Components also has multi-mode fibres and special fibres, such as, for example, sapphire fibres and hollow-core fibres available. In addition to these fibres, POFs and cables for applications with special requirements are also available.

Indoor and outdoor fibre optic cables are available in different designs. The SI200/230 optical fibre with a numerical aperture of 0.37 is the standard used in fibre optic cables. Depending on the customer’s requirements, other combinations are also available.

Polarizing Fibres and Polarisers from 780 nm to 1550 nm

We work with a world leading manufacturer of speciality fibres and can deliver products that are manufactured to the highest standards.

Doped fibre products have been optimised to address the specific requirements of high efficiency and low noise for high power fibre lasers.

Our Erbium doped products have been optimised satisfy both high efficiency and low noise EDFAs in the C & L bands.

Main Applications:

  • 1.5 µm lasers and amplifiers
  • EDFA

The Ytterbium doped fibres (both single and double clad) are made to address a variety of laser performance requirements.

Main Applications:

  • 1 µm CW and pulsed lasers
  • 1 µm pre-amplifiers

We offer a full range of thulium and holmium doped optical fibres for amplifiers and fibre lasers. Our thulium fibres can be used for core pumped fibre lasers at 2 µm wavelength.

Holmium fibre can be pumped by a thulium fibre laser with direct core pumping.

Main Applications:

  • 2 µm CW and pulsed lasers
  • 2 µm amplifiers

The passive fibre range is often used in standard and harsh environments.  The range includes polarisation maintaining fibres, single and muli-mode fibres, photosensitive fibres and double clad fibres.

Our fibres have been designed to offer low loss transmission and low degradation in challenging applications. These can be coated with either acrylate, silicone, polyimide or carbon coatings.

Main Applications:

  • Pump and signal delivery

Fibre diametre control is critical during coil winding.  Our fibres exhibit very high consistency and accuracy of the coating diametre from batch to batch.

In the PM range, elliptic core is available for low temperature dependence application.

Most PM fibres are available in the 125um cladding, but customisation is available on request.

The IXF-PMG family includes high performance polarisation maintaining fibres that are specifically designed for integration into fibre optic gyroscopes on or above the earth.

The IXF-FOCS family of fibres consists of advanced performances polarisation maintaining fibres specially designed for fibre optic current sensors.

Our polarising fibres are designed so that only one state of polarisation is guided along the fibre.  Effectively they work in a similar manner as traditional free space polarisers.

They are available in different wavelengths and brad polarising window, low attenuation and high extinction ratio (>30 dB)

Fibre Bragg Grating mirrors are a critical component used to design laser cavity and are ideal for high power fibre lasers. Our mirrors have been customised to address the specific requirements of high efficiency and laser applications.

Ultranarrow filters in a form of a phase shifted FBG is also available. The phase shift (PS) is introduced within the middle of the stop band. This PS will lead to a sharp resonance peak visible in the transmission spectrum response and features less than 1dB of insertion loss.

Photosensitive fibres exhibit uniform and controlled photosensitivity to conventional UV radiation techniques.  Similar fibres are available with polyimide coatings for harsh environment.

The need for new earth and universe observation satellites is becoming more and more important, with new challenges in this very hostile space environment where components are exposed to ionising radiation.

Space grade PM fibre family includes high performance polarisation maintaining  fibres that are specifically designed for integration into fibre optic gyroscopes on or above the earth.

We have developed a unique know-how in the design of optical fibres in radiative environments such as nuclear power plants, high energy physics labs, nuclear waste repository sites and even all the way into space.

For applications were optical fibres are to withstand long term exposure to high temperature, we have formulated a coating package based on polyimides which provides outstanding long term protection.

Polyimide coated fibres can be used at temperatures up to 350°C for short time and 300°C permanently.  Polyimide coating also provides protection against many chemicals and is a coating of choice when it comes to radiation exposure.

Multicore fibres can be used in a large variety of sensing application where the need to reduce the global footprint is also required for cables and connectors.

Multicore fibres have photosensitive cores, allowing Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) inscription and can be tailored to match the exact customer specifications.

Optical signal in a hollow core photonic bandgap fibre is guided in an air core surrounded by a high air filling factor PBG micro structured region (>90%). Added to the low bend sensitivity due to the core high NA, this confers to this fibre design significantly reduced material nonlinearities since more than 95% of optical power is propagating in air.

Photonics crystal single mode fibres at the pump wavelength, offer both low dispersion at the pump wavelength and high numerical aperture. They are therefore particularly suited for the efficient generation of supercontinuum with ti-sapphire and YAG pulsed pump sources.
