General Information
about Single Photon Counting Modules (SPCM)
Single photon counting modules (SPCM) are used to count individual photons. LASER COMPONENTS' photon counters with the brand name COUNT® offer high quantum efficiency, very low dark count rates (DCR) and a wide dynamic range.
Functionality and operation
The modules of the COUNT® series from LASER COMPONENTS consist of a particularly low-noise silicon avalanche photodiode and specially developed high-voltage (HV) electronics with quenching circuitry and temperature management. They can be operated at wavelengths between 400 nm and 1000 nm. Incoming photons generate avalanche-like electrical pulses that are read out at the TTL output.
100 % quality control
All specifications of our COUNT® modules are checked at our in-house test station. This combines ultra-short pulsed diode lasers, computer-controlled motion stages and a reference power meter with a system for time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC), the Time Tagger Ultra from Swabian Instruments.
