Fiber Optic Field Equipment

In optical measurement technology, different measurement devices are used to test optical fibers. In addition to analyzers and power measurement devices, optical sources that can be readout with the help of monitors are also used.

Test Platform for FTTx Networks

MTS 4000

Compact test platforms for access and FTTx networks and triple-play services – up to two modules can be implemented.

Test platforms are used as a base unit for all types of measurements. One or two modules can be inserted depending on the model and then used for the corresponding measurements.

The MTS-2000 and MTS-4000 base units are suited for measurements of access and FTTx networks and for triple-play services. The MTS-2000 can be operated with one measuring module and the MTS-4000 with two modules.

The compact MTS5800 is one of the smallest but most powerful network testers for measurements of up to 10 Gb Ethernet on the market. By adapting the proven OTDR modules from the MTS-2000/4000 family, the performance of the MTS-5800 has been significantly increased once again.

The MTS2000 is suited as a test platform to test the functionality of the optical fibers in FTTx/PON networks. This robust base unit is equipped with a large, 5” touchscreen that is easy to read. This unit can also serve in automatic fiber inspection with IEC pass/fail analysis on an optional basis. This is carried out by connecting the P5000i backpanel microscope via USB.

Equipped with a lithium polymer rechargeable battery, the MTS-2000 can be used for up to 8 hours at a time.

Connections

The MTS-2000 has many flexible interfaces: It has an Ethernet interface, two USB connections, and it can also be equipped with integrated Bluetooth and WiFi interfaces on an optional basis.

The MTS2000 can hold one measuring module.

For optimal application in the field, a “hands-free” bag is included in delivery with this unit.

Applications

With the corresponding measuring modules, the MTS2000 can be used for the following measurements:

  • OTDR applications in LAN/WAN/Metro/Access/PON networks
  • FiberCompleteTM modules for bidirectional measurement of attenuation and optical return loss (ORL) incl. OTDR measurement
  • CWDM – Spectral representation of CWDM channels
  • Connection of a digital microscope for the analysis of connector end faces and pass/fail analysis according to the IEC norm
  • Additional testing applications: optical power measurement integrated on an optional basis, fault localization using VFL (red laser)

The MTS4000 is a multi-test platform and thus the all-rounder for service technicians that work in the installation and maintenance of technically-challenging optical fiber and copper-based DSL access networks and triple-play services. With the MTS-4000, it is possible to immediately find the cause of almost all thinkable errors.

This unit is just as robust as the MTS-2000, but it can hold two measurement modules at the same time. The different measuring modules make various measurements possible; therefore, with this unit, you are particularly flexible. A return on your investment is guaranteed.

On the 7” large screen, it is possible to display different information: the current IPTV transport stream, a web browser, a PDF reader, or complex test results such as, for example, an OTDR curve or the signal path of a spectrum analysis.

Connections

Two interchangeable measuring modules can be connected to the MTS4000. In addition to the Ethernet interface, a headset connection exists as well as two USB ports and (available on an optional basis) an integrated red light source, VFL, and a power meter. Similar to the MTS2000, a Bluetooth interface and a WiFi connection can also be integrated.

Also Suited for Copper Networks

With this unit, not only can optical fiber networks be tested, but copper cables can be measured as well. Thus, a volt meter and an ohm meter are available for the MTS-4000 as well as a time domain reflectrometer (TDR) module, featuring a fault location through the resistance and a broadband analysis up to 30 MHz.

Triple-Play Service Software Option

As an additional function, the MTS-4000 can be equipped with triple-play service software (see below).

VDSL and ADSL Testing

If this device is used with the Infineon Technologies chip set and the licensed option for DSL diagnosis solutions by Aware, Inc., then VDSL and ADSL tests can be run as well.

Network and fiber optic technology users are best equipped with the MTS5800 for installing, certifying, operating, and troubleshooting in the most diverse trades. Automated test sequences allow networks to be tested easily, quickly, and precisely.

Application examples:

  • Mobile backhaul characterization, verification, and troubleshooting
  • Ethernet/IP network testing and troubleshooting with interfaces from 10 Mbps to 10 G
  • RFC 2544, Y.1564, and RFC 6349 (TrueSpeed™) test applications
  • Fiber link characterization and troubleshooting
  • Installation and maintenance of OTN, SONET/SDH, and TDM/PDH networks
  • Remote radio head (RRH) tests
