125 µm fibers are mainly used for telecom and datacom applications. To break the fibers, there are easy-to-handle cleavers available that can be used in the field.
S315 – The Smallest Cleaving Tool
We refer to the smallest fiber cleaving tool in the program as the “nutcracker” because the fiber can be easily cleaved with the S315 without taking the tool out of your hand.
This device is designed for single fibers. With the integrated scale you can set cleaving lengths between 5 mm and 20 mm. The S315 is an inexpensive and simple cleaving tool for use in the field. However, you should not use it to cleave fibers that you intend to splice afterwards.
S326 – FITEL’s High-Precision Fiber Cleaving Tool
FITEL’s high-precision fiber cleaving tool, the S326, is light and ergonomic. It is easy to operate; even inserting the fiber is not a problem. For operation, this cleaving tool can be placed on a work bench or used directly in the palm of your hand. This makes the FITEL S326 ideal for use in the field!
With the S326, all types of optical fibers can be processed – from single fibers to fiber ribbons with 12 fibers and a 125 µm cladding diameter.
S327 – Ergonomic Design and High Durability
The S327 from FITEL Furukawa delivers high-precision cleaving combined with impressive durability. You can perform around 65,000 crushing operations with a single blade. Afterwards, it only takes a few simple steps to replace the blade and continue your work. The user-friendly design reflects modern ergonomic considerations. All operations can be performed with just one hand.
FK11 and FK 12 Ultrasonic Cleaving Tools
Ultrasonic cleaving tools produce cleaves with consistently high precision. Optical fibers are thus optimally prepared for high-strength splices. Both ultrasonic cleavers can be operated with batteries and are, therefore, suitable for use in the laboratory, as well as in the field.
The FK11 cleaver cleaves fibers with diameters of from 80 µm to 200 µm, and the FK11-LDF cleaver (for large diameter fibers) cleaves fibers with diameters of from 180 µm to 400 µm.
FK11-LDF-C
This model is capable of cleaving through the polyimide coating of a fiber. The hard coating does not need to be removed for a clean cleave.
FK12
With the FK12 cleaver, angle cleaves between 0° and 15° can also be performed to avoid back reflections. Since the angle is adjusted by torsional forces, it can be easily reproduced with high precision.
FC-500 Precision Cleaver
With the FC-500 precision fiber cleaver, coated fibers with cladding diameters between 250 µm and 900 µm can be cleaved so precisely that they can then be processed with fusion splicing equipment.
