Fibre Optical Couplers

Fibre optical couplers are used to both split and combine optical signals in optical fibres. As passive optical components, they are often used in data transmission. The broad range of products includes SM, PM, MM, and POF couplers as well as planar splitters.

Singlemode Couplers / Couplers PM

For different wavelengths and coupling ratios.

Single-mode couplers are available for different wavelengths. They are very reliable and inexpensive. Despite their small dimensions (only 25 x 2.5 mm²) these components fulfill the highest requirements regarding thermal and physical stability. They are available in 1x2, 1x3, 1x4 and 2x2 configurations. Couplers with polarisation-maintaining fibres (PM) are also available for special applications.

Inexpensive Broadband Couplers

The fibre couplers are based on the proven "fused biconical tapered" technique (FBT) – molten and stretched fibres between which light passes. Separation ratios are available by default in 10% increments but 1% increments are available upon request – up to 1% / 99%. In addition to the common wavelength ranges of approximately 1310 nm and 1550 nm, for short wavelength starting at 633 nm they are also available. The components are suited to work with common single-mode fibres, and can be fitted for special fibres upon request. All common connectors can be connected.

The couplers are tested over the complete transmission band and not only at certain wavelengths. They work bidirectionally with very high cross talk and low insertion loss. Thanks to their excellent thermal stability, the couplers are insensitive to harsh environmental conditions.

These types of couplers have been installed by the hundred thousands so that there is plenty of field experience. They are available in different standard housings with quick delivery times, thus covering a broad range of potential applications. Thanks to inexpensive mass production, they are available at favorable prices.
