OSA Modules
For the spectral measurement of CWDM systems in access networks or of DWDM systems in main lines and 40G or 100G networks, optical spectrum analyzers (OSAs) are used. Measurement devices that offer a real OSNR measurement are also available for ROADM-based systems and 40G networks with narrow channel spacing.
Viavi’s various modules are available from us:
- OSA-110 series
- OSA-500 series
- NanoOSA
For the first two modules you need an MTS-6000 or MTS-8000 as a basic device. The NanoOSA was developed for the 2000 and 4000 platform, as well as for the ONA-800. The graphical user interface and menu navigation can be operated intuitively without major training.
OSA-110 from VIAVI
The OSA-110 offers a spectral analysis across the full bandwidth from 1250 nm to 1650 nm. Due to the internal wavelength calibration, the wavelength can be stabilized to within ±0.05 nm; this guarantees accurate measurements. The OSA-110 can be used for all CWDM and DWDM applications at channel spacing as low as 33 GHz.
A high-power version is available for CATV applications, as well as an in-band version for the measurement of real OSNR in ROADM and 40G networks.
The OSA-110 is used for the following applications:
- Development and maintenance of DWDM metro and core networks
- Installation and maintenance of CWDM systems in CATV, access, and mobile access networks
- Verification of high-speed 40G/100G interfaces
- Resource management and troubleshooting in ROADM networks
OSA-500
With the OSA-500, optical spectral analyses can be carried out for the entire measurement range in CWDM, DWDM, and ROADM systems. The OSA-500 offers real OSNR results in a matter of seconds; due to the technology of the in-band OSA, the results are available 40% faster than in other systems. Wavelength calibration is not necessary; the integrated self-calibration system saves time and reduces maintenance costs by half.
For CWDM and DWDM networks, it is possible to carry out measurements across the full bandwidth from 1250 nm to 1650 nm. The optical bandwidth resolution is 0.038 nm at a wavelength stabilized at 0.01 nm.
The OSA-500 comes in different versions that vary according to their additional measurement options. This device is suited for combination with the MTS-8000.
NanoOSA
The NanoOSA is a low-cost alternative for the MTS2000/MTS4000 platforms with slightly reduced specifications. It also covers the entire wavelength range from 1260 nm to 1650 nm. At a wavelength accuracy of +/-0.015 nm, DWDM channels with a channel spacing of at least 33 GHz can also be measured here. The result includes channel power, wavelength, offset, and OSNR. Drift measurements (wavelengths and power) are also possible.
With this module, new wavelength scenarios in the O-band, such as MWDM (channel spacing: 7 or 13 nm) and LWDM (channel spacing: 800 GHz), can be covered in addition to the standard CWDM and DWDM.
The NanoOSA is available in two versions: as a “real” OSA (OSA-4100) and for channel verification (OCV-4100), similar to a channel checker.
