Bon Appétit!
A highly eventful and successful year will be coming to an end. We have already met all of the goals we set for ourselves, and the entire LASER COMPONENTS Group can look back proudly on the most prosperous and significant year in terms of economic growth in the company’s history.
We have never before so intensively experienced in so many projects together with our customers and suppliers. It proves that optical technologies have taken off in more and more applications and are now such an integral part of our everyday private lives.
Because new projects in our sector take several months, and sometimes even years, before reaching the implementation phase, we can already say with certainty that this growth and development will continue; in fact, it will likely accelerate significantly in the coming years.
The driving forces here are new medical applications, mechanical engineering and the automotive industry, the latter two being the strongest in Germany. However, even in the telecommunications sector (where demand has stagnated over the past two decades while production overcapacity is still high), we have again recorded the strongest growth and new investments in large infrastructures. Thanks to our focus on components and sub-modules, LASER COMPONENTS is traditionally familiar with different sectors and applications. The many fields of application of optical technologies continue to inspire us every day.
Therefore, in our company newsletter, it is our intention to more intensively highlight various areas that you would not normally associate with laser technology or photonics.
After the topics of medicine, sports, safety technology and autonomous driving, this issue puts a focus on food and beverages. What does photonics have to do with wine production? How can light protect us from microbes? What can lasers do for the packaging industry?

Looking Forward to the 2017 Vintage
Rolf Bogen, enologist and owner of BOGEN WEINMANUFAKTUR, from the town of Grünstadt in the Palatinate region has promised wine connoisseurs that 2017 will be an excellent year. The Indian summer decelerated the harvest; the last grapes were picked at the beginning of October and have a high must weight. Cool nights kept the late-blooming assortments, such as Burgundy and Riesling, healthy; therefore, even small amounts produced high-quality yields. Wine connoisseurs may look forward to an excellent year with ripe, fruity white wines and portly, sophisticated red wines.
