LASER COMPONENTS Germany GmbH
The history of LASER COMPONENTS Germany GmbH began in the home of the company founder, Günther Paul, in 1982. Thanks to bold investments and a progressive product policy, the company has grown to 160 employees today and is by far the largest employer in the group.
A third of the workforce is concentrated in the production departments for laser optics, fiber optic assemblies, and optoelectronic technologies. A lion's share of all products available at LASER COMPONENTS are manufactured in house.
Why LASER COMPONENTS
Beyond Borders
Close cONTACT
Direct contact with the customer is our most important recipe for success. Our sales team consists of qualified technology professionals with many years of experience. You can rely on the fact that you will have the same contact person at your side for the entire duration of the project. During visits to your company, we gain a personal impression of your requirements and general conditions. This ensures that our development department is headed in the right direction right from the start.
At the Olching site, sales, R&D, and production are just a few steps away from each other. This close cooperation and constant exchange between our team members creates important synergies beyond the boundaries of the various areas of specialization. We think outside the box. One example of this is when the fiber optics production department combines the findings of the optics department to provide its fibers with anti-reflective coatings.
sTRONG r&d dEPARTMENT
In addition to the internal exchange of know-how and experience, our multidisciplinary R&D team also benefits from its traditionally close collaboration with industry and science. For example, we benefit from the results of joint research projects that we carry out with well-known universities and renowned research institutes.
As part of their bachelor’s and master’s theses, students gain early insight into the day-to-day work of a medium-sized technology company. Many of them now work as technologists and development engineers at LASER COMPONENTS.
At The Center Of An Innovative Photonics Region
Beyond Borders
LASER COMPONENTS Germany sees itselves as a mirror of the entire German photonics industry, which continues to be strongly characterized by medium-sized companies and their great innovative strength. With continuous growth in personnel and sales, we are the driving force for all other locations in the company group. We are in constant contact with our colleagues across all geographical borders and time zones, working together on our own future and thus also shaping the future of our customers.
Olching is located in the north-west part of Munich and, therefore, at the heart of one of the most important photonics regions in Germany. Many well-known global players have their headquarters here. Due to the numerous important universities and research institutions, there is also an innovative atmosphere from which we at LASER COMPONENTS benefit. Through our own research and development activities, we also make an important contribution to the development of new products, processes, and technologies.
After Thuringia and Berlin, Bavaria is one of the most important photonics locations in Germany. Around 50% of the nationwide products in the lighting technology, information technology, and communication technology sectors come from Bavaria. In medical technology and the life sciences, this share is 25%.
Photonics is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Germany. With almost 191,000 employees, the industry generated sales of around 50.2 billion euros in 2022. Compared to the previous year, this represents growth of 18% for around 1,000 companies.
Around 40% of all photonics products manufactured in Europe come from Germany, and Germany is also ahead of the pack in terms of innovative strength on the European continent. German manufacturers invest around ten percent of their turnover in research and development. The products are used in many different fields of application, especially in industrial sectors that have traditionally played an important role in Germany such as production technology, measurement technology, and medical technology products. However, R&D activities also focus on promising growth markets such as quantum technology and photonics applications for agriculture, in which experts expect growth of 15.8% over the next few years.
That's Us
Beyond Borders
The company’s origins as a family business are particularly evident in its corporate culture. Those who start at LASER COMPONENTS often stay for many decades. At the company’s 40th anniversary in 2022, we were able to honor team members for the first time who have remained loyal to the company for 30 years or more. Even though much has changed in the meantime due to the company’s steady growth, the close-knit team spirit can still be felt everywhere – and not just at joint celebrations or outings but also in day-to-day work.
Whether in production, administration, or sales: a very specific type of people works at LASER COMPONENTS. This quickly becomes clear to visitors and customers.
No idea, no vision, no problem is too large for us. We see even the tricky tasks as a challenge, and we solve them together. Everyone contributes to the common goal with their skills and talents and when we have achieved it, we enjoy our success together. In years of growth, for example, all team members share in the company’s profits.
Management
The special LASER COMPONENTS spirit can also be felt in the management. Employees treat each other as equals and, in addition to the Paul family, long-standing employees are also part of the management team. This trust is also formally expressed in the power of attorney.
Patrick Paul
CEO
The eldest son of company founder Günther Paul has played an integral role in the company since 2001 and took over managing duties in 2006. After completing his degree as an industrial engineer, he initially traveled abroad to support the North American activities of the company. In February 2018, he took over full control of the entire Laser Components Group.
Sven Schreiber
General Manager
While studying business administration and economics, he first started working in the laser sector at a company in the U.S.A. In 2002, he headed up the export department at Laser Components and successfully built a network of distributors. He has been working as sales director since 2014 and took over sole responsibility of sales and marketing as an authorized officer in 2017. He was appointed general manager in November 2023.
Dr. Lars Mechold
CTO
Upon completion of his doctorate in plasma physics, he worked in research at INP in Greifswald for a period before entering the industrial sector. Both his technical training and production management studies proved to be beneficial as head of IR laser diode production. Over the years, he has taken on more and more tasks and responsibilities at Laser Components, shaping the field of optoelectronics technologies. In 2012 he was appointed technical director of the entire company.
Ursula Mader
COO
Ursula Mader, also an industrial engineer, has been active in the company for several years, initially in purchasing and quality management and since 2000 as executive assistant. In 2010, she took over as head of organizational and operational processes.
Laser Components' Founder
Günther Paul
Günther Paul, who obtained his degree in engineering, is the founder of the LASER COMPONENTS Group and can look back on over 40 years of experience in the laser industry. With this experience, he laid the foundation for the direction the company would take under his wing to develop from what was originally a distribution company to the manufacturer of optical and optoelectronic components it is today.
On January 31, 2018, he officially resigned his position as general manager. However, he still keeps close ties to the family business in an advisory role.
