The unique 665 nm red VCSELs (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers) are now available. The red VCSELS in T046 package, have a low operating current of 3 mA, with optical output power of typically 0.5 mW, have the ability to be modulated at very high frequencies, a circular output beam with low divergence, and can be tested at the wafer level, making these lasers suitable for applications requiring small compact diodes and low operating currents, e.g. in portable scanners. They are also ideal for low cost high-speed communications over plastic optical fibre e.g. in car and fibre to the home applications.
