High Power Multimode Assemblies

Since 1995 we have been producing fiber assemblies for the transmission of high laser powers in Olching. Due to controlled clean room conditions, we can guarantee a high level of cleanliness at the fiber front. You have the choice between D80, SMA or DIN connectors as well as a large selection of protective jackets. On request, we can also provide your cables with Modestrip technology or an AR coating.

Mode-Strip Assemblies

Mode-strip assemblies for high optical beam quality without cladding modes to avoid thermal hotspots in the fiber cladding and transmit the highest power possible.

In mode-strip assemblies, undesired modes are diverted from the fiber cladding. This offers several advantages:

  • High optical beam quality without cladding modes
  • Thermal hotspots in the fiber cladding can be avoided
  • High power transmission does not destroy the fiber cable

ModeStrip assemblies are specifically assembled according to customer requirements. Through precise controls in the outgoing goods area, we guarantee an eccentricity of <10 µm (and if desired, also <5 µm). We can equip the fiber end face with an AR coating on an optional basis. Upon request, we can also supply you with measurement reports on the attenuation and centricity values, as well as photos of the end faces.

In theory, the light in optical fibers is reflected several times without loss at the interface between the fiber core and the fiber cladding according to the principle of total reflection. In practice, however, small fractions of power can enter the fiber cladding. During the transmission of high power, as much as 2% to 3% can lead to the destruction of the fiber cable. Mode-strip connectors provide a remedy by stripping off the cladding modes and dissipating the resulting heat in a controlled manner via a cooling element. This prevents thermal destruction of the fiber connector and simultaneously improves the beam profile where the fiber exits.
