Cost-Effective Solution

Polymer optical fibers (POFs) are considerably cheaper to manufacture than glass fibers. In data networks they are used for signal transmission across distances of up to 20 meters – for example, in computer centers, bus systems, and the automotive industry. Longer distances are not practical due to the high degree of attenuation.

LASER COMPONENTS supplies polymer optical fibers with or without a protective jacket (PVC, PTEE, metal, silicone) and with core diameters of from 250 µm to 3000 μm.

Heat-Resistant Plastic Fibers

With the PHK series polymer optical fibers, your data packages will not sweat, even at a constant temperature of 115°C. The heat-resistant material of the optical fiber reliably protects it from a heat death.

The tested and proven polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) fiber has a numerical aperture of 0.54. As a standard cable, it is available with cladding diameters of 1.0 mm and 2.2 mm. As special designs, we can also produce bundles and other fiber diameters.
